Ten Google Tricks to Find Exactly What You Are Looking For
10 Google Search Tricks To Help You Find What You Are Looking For, says USAToday.
When it comes to finding what you want, some tricks make things easier.
Here are 10 tips from Google to try:
1. Filter your search results by date.
Let's say you're doing research and you only want results from the past five years.
If you filter by date, you can make sure old links don't clutter up your search results.
Here's what to do. First enter your phrase. Then click on Tools, click on Any Time and Custom range.
Then a small window will appear titled "Custom date range" and a calendar.
You can insert start and end dates.
This way, you filter the results to ensure that you don't get any search results outside of these time bounds.
From there, just click Go.
2. Eliminate unnecessary keywords.
It is annoying when you are looking for one thing, and results for the other keep popping up.
With this trick, you can exclude keywords that you don't need.
Do you need to exclude a word? Put a minus sign (-) in front of the word you don't want.
Place a plus sign (+) in front of any word that you want to emphasize as important.
3. Find the files.
Here's another secret to help you save time.
Enter File Type: At the beginning of your search if you're looking for a spreadsheet, PDF, or other document.
For example, if you need PDFs, search for filetype: pdf along with your keyword.
This tip is helpful if you're looking for other file types as well.

Need an Excel spreadsheet? Just enter filetype: Excel along with your keyword into a search engine.
Now everything that is publicly available is just a few clicks away.
4. Try advanced search.
Everyone knows how to do a basic Google search.
But power users prefer the advanced search feature, which helps refine the results.
You can find websites with specific words, exact phrases, numbers, languages, and regions, among other options.
On your first search attempt, click Settings just below and to the right of the main text box and look for Advanced Search.
You will see several search fields. There, you can filter your searches in any number of ways.
If you can't find something on a particular website due to their lack of search functionality, Google Advanced Search has a box where you can search by site or domain.
For multimedia, you can search by image size or aspect ratio, color, search by site, or even filter results by usage rights.
5. Fast and easy search methods.
If you don't want all advanced search filters, you can use multiple shortcuts for general search.
For example, if you are looking for something precise, add quotation marks to a word or phrase (for example, "The Last Dance").
You can also search a site directly by placing site: directly in front of the URL and then following it with your search term.
It will look like this: site: forumdaily.com "insurance".
Quotation marks are needed if you want Google to search in your order, all words together and in the same cases as you specified.
Without quotes, Google will search for each word individually or in free order.
You can use the same method to find related content (related :).
Place @ in front of a word for social media searches, or add # in front of a word for hashtag searches.
Use * instead of an unknown word or as a placeholder. You can even search in a range of numbers, for example: 2002..2018.
6. Stay on top of things - the easy way.
Want a quick glimpse of today's weather?
Assuming your device knows where you are, type “weather” into Google for detailed daily forecasts and forecasts for the coming days.
You can also enter “Atlanta weather” or any other point on the map for detailed meteorological information.
This skill is incredibly useful, especially in the kitchen.
Just google "timer" and it will show a default countdown time of five minutes; you can quickly change it to the duration you want.
Click or tap the top tab and it becomes a stopwatch.
8. Find the origin of the word.
Many people use Google as a dictionary by typing a word and then “definition” into a search engine.
But besides just typing, Google also offers synonyms, antonyms, and (often) etymology of a word, that is, its origin.

So, if you like to know that "night" comes from Old English "neaht", you can play this language game all day.
9. Convenient translator.
Select the language you want to translate, then search for any word or phrase.
Google Translate works in over 100 languages around the world.
Although you can convert a search engine to Klingon, translation is still not supported.
10. Perform two searches at the same time.
Most of us have ever thought to search for only one search term at a time; first we look for Paris, then Aviation History.
If you're not quite sure what you're looking for, Google can combine your searches.
All you have to do is add your search terms and separate them with "and" or "or".
