Russian oligarch returns private jets due to US sanctions
Russian aluminum tycoon Oleg Deripaska returned the three privately owned aircraft he hired because he can no longer use them because of the US sanctions imposed on him in April, a firm hired by owners of aircraft to sell them told Reuters on Thursday.
Executive class liners Gulfstream are popular among wealthy and successful businessmen because of the long range and luxurious cabin. Now the planes are for sale, the initial price of two of them is $ 29,95 million each.
The return of the aircraft indicates how strongly the sanctions hit the business empire of Deripaska, influencing not only Rusalwhose sales and supply chains have been severely affected by US actions.
Alireza Ittihadieh, Director of the Company Freestreamspecializing in the purchase and sale of aircraft, which offered to sell three aircraft used by Deripaska, said that they belonged Credit Suisse and Raiffeisen. According to him, then the firms controlled by Deripaska rented airliners through a private company.
“Who used them? Top management. Including Deripaska himself,” Ittihadieh told Reuters by phone.
“He is under sanctions, his companies are under sanctions, he will have to return the planes. He will have to terminate the lease agreement early as part of the sanctions,” he added, without specifying what specific sanctions requirements apply in this case.
Representative Rusal said the company refuses to comment.
Representative Credit Suisse in Switzerland, he refused to comment on the issue of aircraft, but said: “Credit Suisse works with international regulators wherever it does business to ensure compliance with sanctions. This includes compliance with the latest sanctions related to Russia.”
Representative Raiffeisen reported that she could not answer questions Rider, since on Thursday in Austria is a holiday. She added that she could not comment on potential clients due to banking secrecy law.
Washington 6 April объявил on the introduction of sanctions against a number of Russian companies and their owners, including Deripaska, because of the “malicious actions” of the Kremlin around the world.
Individuals on the blacklist are prohibited from entering the United States, and American firms and citizens are prohibited from any transactions with them or the companies they own.
According to the Civil Aviation Register of the Isle of Man, where these three aircraft are registered, their owners are offshore companies, and the names of the shareholders are not disclosed.
All three aircraft belong to the model Gulfstream G550while the value of each of them is about $ 50 million, if we are talking about a new vessel. All of them have a characteristic gray-white coloring, as seen in the photos attached to the announcement of the sale, and amateur images published on the Internet.
The range of the G550 liner is 12.500 kilometers, and its equipment may include a personal cabin and handmade leather chairs.
Ittihadieh reported that the owners of the aircraft made a decision to sell as soon as Deripaska and the companies belonging to it ceased renting.
“The bank does not need these assets,” he said. — Banks take assets, as soon as the leased property is returned, they either sell it or re-lease it. In this case, they have assets that are five years old and they decided to sell them.”
Two aircraft for sale for $ 29,95 million, were produced in 2012 year and have tail numbers M-ALAY and M-UGIC. The third aircraft, with the tail number M-SAWO, was produced in 2005 year, the sale price is not specified.
When Washington imposed sanctions on Deripaska, the M-UGIC was in Basel, Switzerland, showed flight tracking data to the public. The next day, April 7, the liner returned to Moscow.
An older plane with tail number M-SAWO was in Buffalo, New York on April 6, data from websites that allow you to track private jet flights showed - Virtual Radar and adsbexchange.com. The next day he flew to New York City and then to Russia.
One case is already known when sanctions have influenced the organization of travels of Russian entrepreneurs. Oil tycoon Gennady Timchenko, in 2014, said in an interview with the TASS state agency that Gulfstream after the introduction of US sanctions against him, he stopped the maintenance of his personal aircraft.
