US Independence Day: How Americans Meet the Country's Birthday

The national holiday dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States will be filled with parades, concerts, a festive dinner and, of course, fireworks. Boston, Philadelphia, New York and other cities across the country are holding mass celebrations. Edition Foxnews 23 gathered the main events of this day.

The biggest show

Macy's fireworks over the East River in New York is considered one of the largest in the country. Spectacular fireworks and a concert will be broadcast channel NBC. World stars will perform: Luke Bryan, Maren Morris, Brad Paisley, Jennifer Hudson, Ciara, Khalid and Derek Hough.

Celebration in Boston

Boston celebrates Independence Day with a traditional parade, a concert in Boston Pops and fireworks.

Celebrations began on Thursday morning at the city hall. Then the marchers went to the Old Granary Burial Ground, where Samuel Adams, John Hancock and other famous leaders are buried.

Historical celebration

The country's oldest celebration of the fourth of July was held in Bristol, Rhode Island. The events began on Flag Day and ended with a July 4th parade in which tens of thousands of people took part. This day’s celebration was first held in this seaside town in 1785, and has been held annually ever since.

National parade

The traditional parade in Washington was just a warm-up, as all attention was paid to the main festive event of the District of Columbia - the presidential speech and military parade.

For decades, Independence Day in Washington has been paraded along Constitution Avenue and on the lawn of the Capitol, accompanied by the music of the National Symphony Orchestra, as well as fireworks at the monument to George Washington.

This year, President Trump plans to speak to people at 18: 30 EST. He will also lead tanks and military aircraft to the evening parade.

PBS will broadcast the concert on the West Lawn of the Capitol with the participation of the presenter John Stamos and performers such as Carol King, Vanessa Williams, Colby Caillat, Lee Bryce and O'Jays.

Early in the morning on Thursday, the president congratulated Americans on the holiday in his microblog Twitter: "Happy July Fourth!"

“People come from everywhere to join us today at a holiday that promises to be one of the most ambitious in the history of our country,” he wrote. “Salute America” is an event that will take place all day at the Lincoln Memorial, and its culmination will be a large-scale military parade with the most modern and advanced aviation in the world.

The Department of Defense on Wednesday confirmed that. the heads of departments, Mark Esper, and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, accepted the invitation of the President to participate in the parade.

The event will be attended by other senior representatives of the US defense department. In addition, the White House provided 5 000 tickets for the event to servicemen and their families.

New citizens

More than two dozen naturalization ceremonies will be held throughout Independence Day to greet the new Americans. Ceremonies will be held near the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and at the home of George Washington in Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Vice President Mike Pence celebrated Independence Day by accepting 44 immigrants from 26 countries into an “American family” at a naturalization ceremony in the country's capital.

Children's activities

In Legoland in Winter Haven, Florida, children create a giant United States flag from the LEGO designer. There will also be a big holiday firework.

In Orlando, Walt Disney World hosts a special show called Celebrate America.

In Philadelphia, the festivities began with a parade near Independence Hall and ended with a concert with Megan Traynor and Jennifer Hudson on Benjamin Franklin Boulevard. The annual fireworks show will begin after a concert at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Radio parade

In Connecticut, Independence Day is celebrated in a very peculiar way. Thousands of spectators watched the annual Boom Box parade. By tradition, participants and spectators carry radios tuned to the same local station.

The parade dates back to 1986, when the city was unable to find an orchestra for the annual parade on Memorial Day. The organizers turned for help to the radio station WILI-AM. Station officials said it was too late to organize events for this holiday, but they began to plan the celebration of the Fourth of July, and tradition was born.

Eating hot dogs

Another unusual tradition of celebrating Independence Day caught on Long Island. Here Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo defended their titles and won again at the annual hot dog eating contest.

Chestnut ate 71 sausage and a bun, while Sudo ate an 31 hot dog. Both did not reach their records, but trophies were easily taken home, beating the other participants.
