Denmark Raises Money to Buy California in Response to Trump's Greenland Overtures
Danish activists, in response to Donald Trump's attempt to buy Greenland, propose buying California from the United States and turning it into part of Denmark, writes Daily Mail.

The Danification campaign aims to raise $1 trillion to buy an American state, then infuse it with Danish culture and values and make the most of its sunny climate and resources.
President Trump, citing strategic importance and valuable mineral deposits, has repeatedly expressed interest in making Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, part of the United States. He has not ruled out using military or economic pressure to persuade the EU member state to give up Greenland.

Without mentioning Trump's threats, the Danification website states its ambitions in the Republican's terms, promising, for example, to "make California great again."
The campaign "help Denmark buy California - because why not?" was launched by Xavier Dutoit, and his online petition collected nearly 200 signatures within hours.
Among the promises are renaming the state "New Denmark" and turning a Disney theme park into "Hans Christian Andersen's Land" with Mickey Mouse in a Viking helmet.
Negotiations between the U.S. and Denmark, Du Toit said, should be led by Danish Lego executives because "working with kids throwing tantrums over missing pieces has made them expert negotiators."
The campaign page claims that Trump may even approve the sale of the Golden State, as he is "not its biggest fan" and has been at odds with California leaders like Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris for years.
The deal is to be further sweetened by the offer of a lifetime supply of Danish pastries, which Dutoit says "Hollywood will pay for."
The page says the ambitious $1 trillion target could easily be reached if every Dane contributed 200 kroner (about £000, or $14).
It also states: “We will bring hygge to Hollywood, bike lanes to Beverly Hills and organic smørrebrød to every corner,” adding that “the rule of law, universal healthcare and evidence-based policies can be applied.”
(Hygge is a Danish philosophy of coziness, comfort, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Hygge can be associated with anything: a cup of hot cocoa by the fireplace, a cozy blanket, candles, pleasant company, or even a walk in a quiet forest. It is a way of finding happiness in the little things and appreciating moments of peace.
Smørrebrød are traditional Danish open sandwiches. They are made from rye bread, generously spread with butter, and then topped with various fillings: fish (such as smoked salmon or herring), meat (roasted beef or pâté), cheese, eggs, vegetables, and sauces. Smørrebrød are not just food, but real art: beautifully decorated, each sandwich becomes a small culinary masterpiece. – Note.)
In another nod to Trump, it is claimed that the "will of the people" has never stopped the president from making business deals, and that Denmark would "protect the free world" if it took control of California.
In an attempt to persuade Danes to back the plan, the organizers are touting California's sunny weather, a stark contrast to Denmark's cold climate, and are pitching the purchase as a "unique opportunity" to get "more sun, palm trees, and roller skates."
Capitalizing on the Danish love of avocados, the campaign's organizers cite the state's abundant avocado harvest and promise that "we'll have plenty of avocado toast."
The satirical campaign is just one example of how Danes are responding to Trump's threats to take Greenland.
Addressing the 47th US president last month, Danish right-wing MEP Anders Vistisen responded to his statements: "Dear President Trump, listen very carefully. Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integral part of our country. It is not for sale."
To make his message clearer, Vistissen added: "Let me put it in words that are easier for you to understand: Mr. Trump, go to hell."
Trump previously sparked outrage when he questioned whether Denmark had any legal rights or "interest" in Greenland: "People don't really even know whether Denmark has a legal right to it, but if they do, they should give it up because we need it for national security."
Although Greenland is geographically part of the continent of North America, it has been politically associated with Europe (especially Norway and Denmark) since the 800th century. It has been inhabited by the Inuit for about XNUMX years. (The Inuit are an indigenous people living in the Arctic regions of Canada, Greenland, Alaska (USA), and Chukotka (Russia). They are part of a larger group of people known as the Eskimos, although the Inuit prefer to call themselves Inuit because the word "Eskimo" is considered outdated and can have negative connotations. - Note.)
The colonization of the island began in 1721 with the permission of the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway, and it remained a colony of Denmark until 1953. It is now an autonomous territory of Denmark.

The Danish government controls Greenland's foreign and economic policies, but the territory left the EU in 1985 following a referendum.
The United States has a military base there due to the island's strategic location - it is the shortest ocean route between North America and Europe.
In addition, the island is rich in rare earth elements such as uranium, which is not found in the United States.
