A father killed his little daughter, hid the body in a trash can, and then committed suicide.

Dad killed his little daughter and threw the body in a trash can. The tragedy occurred due to fierce disputes between former spouses over custody of the child. The mother of a murdered girl whose body was found in the San Francisco area said she had long feared for her daughter's safety, writes New York Post.

Little Ellie Lorenzo's body was found at a processing plant in San Jose around 4:30 a.m. on July 13, just two days after the girl was sent to stay with her father for the weekend. Her stay with her father, Jared Lorenzo, was ordered by the court, police said.

“Ellie was taken from me, from her grandmother, from the rest of our family. This is a heinous and cruel crime,” said grieving mother, Crystal Obi, in a July 17 statement.

On the eve of taking the baby for the weekend, 42-year-old Jared Lorenzo learned that the court had granted Obi's request to move with his daughter to another state. Before picking up the baby from their Mountain View home Thursday, Obi said, Jared already knew about the ruling.

Police believe he killed Ellie in his Fremont apartment on the night of July 11-12, then left the house around 6 a.m. and drove 20 miles to San Jose, where he dumped the body in a trash can.

A garbage truck picked up the container and delivered it to a local recycling plant. The body was discovered by a factory worker the next morning.

By that time Lorenzo was already dead. Having disposed of his daughter's body, he went further along the shore of the San Francisco Bay, drove through several cities, reached San Francisco and committed suicide there. This happened around 11 am on July 12th.

Obi has no doubt that her ex-husband killed the child and then went to great lengths to cover up the crime. The girl's body was hidden in a bag inside a box, and Lorenzo himself went to another city to commit suicide. He did everything possible to make both he and the girl simply disappear.

“I was terribly worried for my daughter’s safety every time she had court-ordered visits with her father,” Obi wrote. She had been fighting for sole custody of the girl since their marriage ended in 2021 as her ex-husband, she said, became “increasingly unpredictable” and “progressively unstable.”

When Ellie was five months old, Obi accused her husband of “emotional abuse” and “manipulation with ridiculous excuses.”

She said Lorenzo was "pacing around the room, talking to himself and becoming increasingly irritable," she said. My husband “taped the switches to keep them on.”

Authorities have not said how Lorenzo and Ellie died. The motive and circumstances surrounding the child's death are still under investigation, San Jose police said.
