Contigo withdraws millions of baby water bottles due to choking hazard

Contigo recalls millions of baby water bottles sold in renowned stores throughout the United States. The product carries the potential danger of suffocation. Writes about this Business Insider.

Bottles are recognized as potentially dangerous, as they can lead to suffocation due to separation of a part of the neck and getting it into the throat of a child.

Contigo recalls 5,7 million baby water bottles sold at Walmart, Costco, Target and many other stores due to the potential dangers of suffocation.

The company said that silicone nozzles could disconnect from the bottles and cause choking of children.

The company said it received 149 messages about the separation of nozzles, including 18 cases where separated nozzles were found in the mouth of children.

Water bottles were sold at prices ranging from 9 to 24 dollars in stores across the country and on the Internet from April 2018 to June 2019.

These products are called Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles and come in three sizes: 13 ounces (0,38 L), 14 ounces (0,41 L) and 20 ounces (0,59 L). The recall affects only bottles with a black spout and cap.

The company said that anyone with such bottles should “immediately stop using recalled bottles, pick them up from their children and contact Contigo for instructions on inspecting and getting a free replacement cap.”
