A cleaning lady who got the wrong address was shot dead on the doorstep of a home in Indiana, where the owner thought he was being robbed.
A 32-year-old woman working for a cleaning crew was shot and killed in an Indiana home. The cleaning crew mistakenly went to the wrong address, according to ABC NewsThe prosecutor's office has not yet decided whether to bring charges against the shooter.
It happened on the morning of November 5 in a residential area of Whitstown, located approximately 25 kilometers northwest of Indianapolis, police said.
Whitstown police reported that they received a call of a home invasion shortly before 7:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a woman unconscious on the porch of the house, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The shot came from inside the house, said Captain John Jurkash, a spokesman for the Whitstown Metropolitan Police Department.
On the subject: Three teenagers from post-Soviet countries crashed their car on Halloween night.
"It was later determined that the individuals attempting to enter the house were members of a cleaning crew who had mistakenly arrived at the wrong address," the Whitstown Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. The findings concluded that "the evidence does not support a home invasion."
The Boone County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 32-year-old Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez of Indianapolis. She died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Velasquez's husband said they had been providing house cleaning services for the past seven months, so he was with his wife during the shooting.
"At first, I didn't realize it was a gunshot, but then I saw my wife take two steps back—she looked like she'd been shot in the head," Mauricio Velasquez recounted. "Maria fell into my arms, and I saw blood everywhere."
The couple have four children, the youngest of whom is 11 months old.
“Now I want justice to be restored because he [the shooter] took Maria’s life,” Velasquez emphasized and concluded: “I don’t think it’s humane.”
Police Captain John Jurkash said on November 5 that investigators are currently trying to "determine exactly what happened and what charges may be filed."
