Arriving at the airport, travelers do not want to face before the flight with queues and problems due to too heavy baggage.

But the SSSS letters printed on the boarding pass are worse than a long delay, and this is a sure sign of a nightmare trip.

The code that is used at US airports means Seconding Security Screening Selection.

This may result in the traveler being forced to undergo additional checks, often for no apparent reason, and also to search his luggage.

SSSS was introduced after the September 11 terrorist attacks. It is assumed that the system randomly selects those people who receive this code on their boarding pass.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) stated that a passenger can find the SSSS code if he constantly buys one-way tickets or has recently traveled to certain countries.

In June, the Australian comedian Nazeem Hussain told how he was stopped at Los Angeles Airport with an SSSS code on his boarding pass. He added that he was interrogated for more than an hour.

"I got to the front of the line and they said, 'Oh, you have SSSS on your boarding pass, you'll have to wait until everyone's been screened and then we'll pat you down, look through your bags, and ask you serious questions.' "he told Sydney radio station Triple M.
