What happens if you reply to a spam email

Comedian James Weitch told a conference TED about your experience with the person who sent him a spam letter.

The original message said that a certain Solomon had an “interesting business proposal” for Veitch. To this the comedian replied that “he is intrigued” to find out what will happen next.

After that, Veitch was told that he would “be delivered gold,” and he would be able to earn 10% from his sale.

When asked about the cost of gold, he was told that they would start with “small volumes - only 25 kg.” The cost of such a volume of gold will be about $2,5 million.

At this, Veitch answered that he would like to cooperate on a large scale and asked Solomon how much gold was in his possession. In response, he was told that what matters is not how much gold Solomon has, but how much Veitch can afford. In this case, the spammer suggested starting with 50 kg of gold.

To this, the comic replied that “there is no sense in sending all 50 kg, and it is worth starting at least a ton”.

In response, Solomon asked what Veitch did for a living. The comedian lied about being a hedge fund manager.

Solomon noted that it would be difficult for him to convince his company to send a batch of gold in excess of 50 kg.

After that, Veitch sent the spammer a “visualization” of their cooperation, with which he allegedly intended to go to the management of his foundation, the schedule looked quite primitive.

After that, he wrote to Solomon that one of his assistants “counted everything” and asked, “as much gold as possible”.

In response, Solomon said that he would be happy if the deal was a success, because in that case he would receive a high commission.

When Vache asked where he would spend the money, Solomon answered that he was on real estate. The comic said that he would spend his income on hummus, of which there are many options, etc.

In response to this, Solomon declared that it was time for him to sleep.

According to the comedian, the correspondence lasted for several weeks, and he wanted to bring it to the most ridiculous outcome. Therefore, he wrote to Solomon that he was worried about security and suggested using coding in correspondence. He agreed.

The next day, Veitch wrote that he didn’t sleep all night and developed the code.

The code looked very ridiculous, moreover, the comedian asked Solomon to call him KitKat.

There was no answer, so Weitch decided to remind himself and asked if the deal was valid, but he signed KitKatom. To this Solomon replied that the deal was in force, but he needed money for a lawyer who was preparing the documents, and asked Veitch to send him thousands of pounds 1,5.

The comic replied that he could send money, but asked to follow the code “because of concern about the safety of the conversation.”

In response, he received a very cheerful letter with the same request, but already using the code.

The comedian admitted that he had responded to spam for several years, because “it’s fun”, but as a result I realized that it’s just a waste of time.

According to him, he was even written by “Nelson Mandela’s wife,” who sent a comedian with a photo of her passport and asked for money for her husband’s treatment. It is worth noting that by that time Mandela was already three months dead.
