Film crew member sues Alec Baldwin for murder of Ukrainian cameraman
The head of the lighting team on the set of the western "Rust" Sergei Svetnoy filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles (California) court over the shooting on the set, which resulted in the death of cameraman Galina Hutchins. The publication told about this in more detail. with the BBC.
The lawsuit was filed against two dozen members of the film crew, including actor Alec Baldwin. It was he who shot and killed Hutchins. Among the defendants are assistant director David Halls, who issued the revolver to Baldwin, and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was in charge of the props.
Sergei Svetnoy claims that the bullet that killed his girlfriend Galina Hutchins almost hit him. According to the plaintiff, the cause of the tragedy was the negligence of the members of the film crew, who were responsible for the safety of the weapons used on the set.
Svetnoy said that a few days before the tragedy that took place on the set of Rust, he saw a props weapon left unattended in the mud. According to him, he informed the members of the film crew responsible for the props.

October 21 Alec Baldwin fired a revolver at Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust, which was given to him, mistakenly saying that he was not charged. Hutchins was killed and director Joel Sousa was injured behind her.
David Halls, according to the testimony of the witnesses, when giving Baldwin the prop weapon, claimed that it was not loaded. Halls later explained to investigators that he did not fully check the barrel of the revolver before giving it to the actor. Responsible for the props, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, in turn, said that she did not know how the live cartridge ended up in the pistol on the set. According to her, the weapons on the set were kept in a safe, to which only a few people had access.
The Sheriff of Santa Fe County, where the shooting took place and the tragedy occurred, said it was too early to talk about the charges, but was clearly allowed negligence in handling weapons.
Other members of the film crew criticized the security measures, and Sergei Svetnoy wrote on his Facebook page that the tragedy occurred due to oversight and unprofessionalism.

After the tragic incident, Hollywood filmmakers signed an open letter demanding that real firearms be banned from filming.
63-year-old Ukrainian Sergei Svetnoy is a friend of Galina Hutchins. He emphasized that they had known each other for many years and worked together on the set of nine films.
When a shot rang out on the set, Svetnoy, in his words, rushed to help Hutchins and held her head at the moment when she was dying. He spoke about the dire emotional state after the shooting on the set and the death of Hutchins.
So far, none of the defendants in the claim has commented on the statements of Sergei Svetny and his decision to go to court.
