A quarter of Bernie Sanders’s income in 2014 was social benefits.
Bernie Sanders, a candidate for the US Democratic presidential nominee, announced his 2014 tax return for the year, according to which social benefits accounted for almost a quarter of the family’s income.

According to the declaration, Sanders and his wife Jane earned $2014 thousand in 205,2, of which $175 thousand was Sanders’ senatorial salary, $5 thousand was his wife’s earnings and $46,2 thousand were social benefits, most likely a pension. At the same time, most of the income received as social benefits is not taxed.
As taxes, the couple paid 27,6 thousand dollars. The federal income tax rate for a politician is 13,5%, 8,3 has transferred thousands of dollars to the family for charity.
On April 14, the senator promised to publish his family’s tax return in the next 24 hours, in response to a request from his rival presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and journalists.
“I don’t want anyone to get very excited about this. It will be very boring tax deductions. Neither large amounts in payment for performances, nor significant investments. Unfortunately, I remain one of the poorest members of the Senate of the US Congress, and this will be demonstrated, ”Sanders said, stating his readiness to make public the declaration.
