Tipping has become an integral part of our lives, but for Russian-speaking immigrants to the United States, it is very unusual that in the States they leave up to 25% of the tip, when in our countries it is a maximum of 10%, and even then it is not necessary. Everyone has long been accustomed to, or at least heard of, these same “legendary” tips in various American cafes or restaurants. They should always be left, and absolutely everyone should leave them - this is what etiquette requires.

And well, if only 5%, but tips reach the amount of 25%. And after paying state tax and all 35%.

But my Russian soul does not want to put up with this and therefore wonders: what will happen if the waiter does not pay a tip? I must make a reservation right away that it is not customary to leave a tip in fast foods and in coffee houses for the most part, too.

What will happen if you do not tip?

The waiter will at first politely ask why you did not leave them and decide that you didn’t like something very much.

But such a small unpleasant situation will lead to the fact that the waiter will call the administrator and he will find out what did not please you.

If at the same time you still do not give up and still do not leave, then after that everyone will secretly consider you a greed and a miser.

And I remind you that this will all happen in a crowded place, when, perhaps, you will not be alone.

And other people, too, disapprovingly nod in your direction and put the stigma - greed.

What will happen after that?

If you have already left the cafe, having paid the bill and not leaving a tip, then the waiter or administrator will chase you. Their goal will be the same - you will need to either leave a tip or explain the reason for your dissatisfaction.

But there is one unpleasant thing - the staff in this cafe will remember you and it’s not that they will take your photo and sign: “greedy, serve it as long as possible”, but this simply does not say goodbye. It's like throwing a glove into a person in the 18th century.

And if you dare to visit the same cafe again, you will either have to wait too long for the waiter - they will not seem to notice you, pretending that they are delivering other orders - or they will serve you, but extremely reluctantly and with an unpleasant expression on their face. It will be good if they don’t accidentally spill something on you or something like that. I would venture to guess that various cafes, perhaps across the country, have an online blacklist of “tip defaulters.”

After this, you will not be properly served in any cafe or restaurant normally and adequately. If at all let in.
