Former Auschwitz orderly to stand trial

A certain Hubert Z., a 95-year-old former orderly at the Nazi death camp Auschwitz (Auschwitz), will be brought to justice in Germany on charges of complicity in the murder of a 3 681 man during World War II.

The former non-commissioned officer of the SS health team, according to the investigation, served in the death camp from August 15 to September 14 on the 1944 of the year. During this month, Auschwitz brought at least 14 trains with prisoners, which the Nazis deported from France, Austria and the Netherlands.

Among the prisoners taken to the death camp during this period was a Jewish girl from Holland, Anna Frank, the author of the famous diary in which she describes the life of her family during the Nazi occupation, reports Reuters.

Anne Frank's relatives died in Auschwitz. Anna and her sister Margo were transported to the Bergen-Belsen camp, where they died in March 1945.

In December last year, a court in Rostock in the north of Germany admitted that, for health reasons, Hubert Z. could participate in the trial as an accused.

The hearings will begin in the city of Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, February 29.

Hubert Z. was arrested in March 2014 of the year, at the same time he was charged with complicity in the massacres of concentration camp prisoners, the website of the newspaper Nordkurier reported.

The case of Hubert Z., who served in the Waffen-SS from April 1940 until the end of the war, is the only one in this part of the former GDR, the publication notes.

German courts have repeatedly sentenced former Nazis to various penalties for complicity in the massacres of concentration camp prisoners.

As ForumDaily wrote earlier, in July 2015, 94-year-old Oscar Groening, known as the “accountant of Auschwitz” got four years for complicity in killing 300 of thousands of people, including Hungarian Jews. Groening appealed the verdict.

Two other cases are pending before the courts. So, a certain Reicholl H. from the city of Detmold is accused of complicity in the murder of 170 thousands of people in Auschwitz.
