Former Afghan Minister with Oxford Degree Now Serves Food Delivery

It became known that the former minister in Afghanistan got a job delivering food in Germany. The edition told in more detail Independent.

Syed Ahmad Shah Saadat, a former Afghan minister of information and communications, was spotted by a local journalist in the German city of Leipzig riding his bicycle to deliver groceries.

Saadat joined the government of now-exiled President Ashraf Ghani as a cabinet minister in 2018. However, after working for two years, Saadat resigned and left the country for Germany last December.

The former minister started working as a delivery manager for food delivery company Livrando after he ran out of money. Saadat said his story should "serve as a catalyst for changing the lifestyles of dignitaries in Asia and the Arab world."

Photos of Saadat went viral on social media amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country when the US announced its withdrawal. President Ghani left the country shortly before the capture of the Afghan capital, Kabul, and is reportedly now in the UAE.

Reacting to the situation at home, Sadaat said he never thought the civilian government would fall so quickly.

He is reported to have two master's degrees in communications and electronic engineering from the University of Oxford. During his more than 23-year career, Saadat has worked with at least 20 companies in 13 countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Prior to his tenure as minister, he worked as a technical advisor at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Afghanistan from 2005 to 2013. He was also the CEO of Ariana Telecom in London from 2016-2017.
