The Russians hit a hotel in Kramatorsk: a famous Reuters journalist was killed, two of his colleagues were injured
British security adviser for Reuters news agency dies The agency's journalists were injured when a Russian missile hit a hotel in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, on the evening of August 24, reports CNN.
A team of six members of the Reuters news agency were staying at the Sapphire Hotel while covering the war in Ukraine. An agency spokesman identified the dead man as security adviser Ryan Evans, a 38-year-old British citizen who was assigned to its reporting team in Ukraine.
According to Reuters, two of his journalists are in hospital, one of them was seriously injured. Three more of their colleagues were slightly wounded.

The agency said in a statement on August 25: “We are urgently seeking additional information about the attack, including cooperating with authorities in Kramatorsk. We support our colleagues and their families. We express our deepest condolences to Ryan's family and loved ones. He has helped many of our journalists cover events around the world; We will miss him greatly."
Evans, a former British soldier, has worked with Reuters since 2022, advising the agency's journalists on security issues around the world, including in Ukraine, Israel and the Paris Olympics.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed in his daily address on August 25 that there were British and American citizens at the hotel in Kramatorsk.
“My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We are dealing with daily Russian terror. It continues because Russia has the opportunity to continue it,” said the President of Ukraine.
The US State Department confirmed that a United States citizen was among the victims, but did not name the person.
Rescuers found the body of a deceased Reuters employee under the rubble, the head of the military administration of the city of Kramatorsk, Alexander Goncharenko, said on August 25. He did not provide additional details.
The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadim Filashkin, clarified that among the injured journalists there are “citizens of Ukraine, the USA, Latvia and Germany.” On the morning of August 25, he confirmed on Telegram that the deceased was a British citizen.
Then, on the morning of August 25, a Reuters film crew managed to record a video that captured the enormous damage caused to the hotel. It shows rescuers combing the ruins with flashlights. Footage taken inside the hotel showed several hotel rooms destroyed.
The video, among other things, showed extensive damage to the hotel's roof.
Kramatorsk has been subject to frequent Russian shelling since February 2022. It remains one of the largest Ukrainian-controlled cities in the east of the country.

In April 2022, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the Kramatorsk railway station, which was being used to evacuate civilians fleeing the fighting. The attack, which Human Rights Watch and SITU Research called a “clear war crime,” killed more than 50 people, including several children.
