Afraid of negative environmental reactions: Americans ask doctors to keep their vaccination against COVID-19 a secret
A Missouri doctor says patients are being asked to keep their vaccinations a secret for fear of backlash from people they know. Writes about it The Hill.
Priscilla Fraze, chief health information officer at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, said the pharmacist told her about people who fear others will find out about their vaccinations.
“Several people came to the vaccination who tried to sort of disguise their appearance and even asked not to tell anyone that they had been vaccinated,” Frase said.
“They are very concerned about how people around them will react if they find out that they have received the vaccine,” she explained.

According to Johns Hopkins, in Missouri, only 41% of the population is fully vaccinated.
“They had some experiences that changed their minds about vaccines. And they came to their own decision that they wanted to get the vaccine,” Frase said. “But at the same time, they did not want to deal with pressure from relatives and friends.”
The Chief Medical Information Officer noted that doctors are willing to work with patients who want to keep their vaccinations secret and will take “alternative measures” to make appointments if necessary.
Freyz said there are now 33 patients with COVID-19 in the hospital, mostly younger and unvaccinated people.

“Patients are younger than they used to be. More people require supplemental oxygen,” Frase said.
Another Missouri doctor noticed two weeks ago that his hospital sees many patients who regret not receiving the vaccine.
“They keep asking themselves whether they would have ended up in this dire situation in the hospital if they had gotten the vaccine,” says Mayrol Juarez, an intensive care physician. “As a result, they notice: if they went back to the past, they would have done everything differently.”
