23-year-old Greco-Roman wrestler Davit Chakvetadze won the Olympic gold medal 2016 of the year, which became the tenth for Russian athletes in the tournament.

In the final bout of the weight category up to 85 kg, Chakvetadze was stronger than the current world champion Jean Beleniuk from Ukraine, who was considered the main favorite of the competition.

For the Russian wrestler of Georgian origin, who was born in Kutaisi, the Olympics in Rio became the debut. Previously, he became the champion of the European Games 2015 of the year in Baku and the silver medalist of the World Cup 2015 of the year in Los Angeles.

A day earlier, another Russian wrestler, Roman Vlasov, won the Olympics. He had already become a two-time Olympic champion in the weight category up to 75 kg, since 4 had won the Games in London a year ago.

In addition, on Sunday gold medals in the Russian team were won by gymnast Aliya Mustafina, who won the exercises on the uneven bars, and tennis players Yelena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova, who won the final doubles.
