Bombers invade Irish airspace
In Ireland, passenger aircraft changed their flight path due to two Russian bomber aircraft. Without flying, they flew forty kilometers off the coast of Ireland. Since their transponders were turned off, there was no connection with them. Transponders transmit to aircraft controllers information about the aircraft: its type, height, location, etc. The flight path of the violators was crossed with civil airlines, including flights from North America. The incident occurred 18 February.
After the incident, the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador to assure that the Russian side would not be in the airspace of the republic without coordination and with the transponders turned off.
This is not the first invasion of Irish airspace by Russian aviation. In previous cases, she was heading towards the UK, accompanied by NATO fighter jets.
