Caring for babies costs more to college than most Americans.
In the US 33 states, caring for children under the age of 4 is more expensive for parents than attending a state college. Writes about this today Business Insider, with reference to the recent report New America organizations.
The authors of the report state that, on average, in these states, childcare requires parents $ 9 589 per year, while education in the same states costs on average $ 9 410 per year. The difference is small, the researchers note, but it speaks about the current trend. From 2009 to 2012, spending on young children grew twice as fast as the CPI.
The researchers also calculated that a family with average incomes spends about 18% of their income on child support, while low-income citizens who receive the minimum wage spend on their child about 70% income.
In addition, it turned out that the maintenance of young children up to 4 years is more expensive for parents than teenagers.
Among the reasons for which such growth is observed, analysts call a higher salary for teachers who work with small children, as well as insufficient funding for educational institutions. It makes parents pay more.
