Many sports have their own supranational leagues: the US National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League play both clubs from the USA and from Canada. In Europe, there is the Continental Hockey League, and the Champions League, in which there are the strongest football clubs (although in the case of football, teams also play in national championships). It has occurred to businessman Alexander Dreyfus that it is possible to arrange something similar in poker.

To create a poker league, it is necessary that poker is perceived not as a game of chance, but as a sport. To do this, Dreyfus wants to deprive players of money for winning (they will receive a salary - just like NBA and NHL players), collect them into teams (in ordinary poker, everyone plays primarily himself), and form these teams on the basis of a draft (lottery which is used to determine which club will go to a particular player). The first draft, if all goes well, takes place 25 February.

The poker league will have two conferences. The first is conditionally called American: it will include teams from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Toronto and Sao Paulo. In the second - Eurasian - league will get teams from London, Paris, Prague, Barcelona, ​​Hong Kong and Moscow.

Dreyfus assumes that teams will play among themselves, sitting in glass cubes. Their cards will be shown to viewers in the stands on televisions, and television broadcasts will bring in enough money for the league to earn.

Dreyfus is not the last person in the poker world. He organized the Global Poker Index - a site about poker, which has a rating of players (in it almost all of the first lines are occupied by Americans, and the strongest of the Russians - Vladimir Troyanovsky - 44). However, his project still has a lot of questions, mainly about legality. In the United States, for example, online poker is prohibited, and it is unclear whether the "athletes" can "perform" outside the casino. The same applies, for example, to Moscow, where gambling is prohibited (in Russia, poker can only be played in special gambling zones, most of which, however, do not work).
