Bill Gates believes that humanity will soon switch to a 3-day work week

Technology may not completely replace humans, but it can make a three-day work week possible - at least that's what Bill Gates thinks. The publication told in more detail Business Insider.

The billionaire joined Trevor Noah on his What Now? podcast. In response to Noah's question about the threat of artificial intelligence to jobs, Gates said that one day there might come a time when people "don't have to work as hard."

“If you end up with a society where you only have to work three days a week, that would probably be fine,” Gates said.

There could be a world where "machines produce all the food and stuff" and people don't have to work five days a week to make a living.

While artificial intelligence can bring some positive changes, Gates has previously acknowledged the dangers of using it incorrectly. In July, he published a 3000-word article on his blog about the potential impact of artificial intelligence.

“I don't think the impact of AI will be as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution, but it will definitely be as big as the advent of the PC. Word processing applications didn't eliminate office work, but they changed it forever, Gates said at the time. “Employers and employees had to adapt, and they did.”

Gates isn't the only business titan predicting a shorter workweek. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said the next generation of workers will only have a 3,5-day work week thanks to artificial intelligence.

"Your kids could live to be 100 and not get cancer because of technology, and they'll probably work three and a half days a week," Dimon said in October.

Gates once considered sleep laziness and told Noah that from the age of 18 to 40 his life was devoted to Microsoft. He now believes that “the purpose of life is not just to do a job.”

Companies in the United States and abroad are testing the effectiveness of a four-day work week. Some of them gave positive feedback about improved work-life balance and increased efficiency.
