One of the investment companies Bill Gates spent 80 million dollars to start developing a "smart city" in the far West valley.
A large plot of land is located about 45 minutes west of downtown Phoenix, near Tonopah.
The city of the future has almost 25 000 acres of land and is called Belmont. According to Belmont partners, an investment group for real estate located in Arizona, the goal is to turn the land into a "smart city".
«Belmont will create a promising community with communication and infrastructure support that will use advanced technologies developed for high-speed digital networks, data processing centers, new production technologies and distribution models, autonomous vehicles and autonomous logistics hubs, ”the press release says Belmont partners.
Ronald Shott, executive honorary member of the Arizona Technology Council, says the company’s acquisition Land gates is in a good location, thanks in part to the proposed I-11 freeway, which will run directly through Belmont and connect to Las Vegas.
“Bill Gates is known for innovation and things like that, and I think he picked the right place. He’s going to Arizona,” Schott said.
According to Belmont partners, 3800 acres will go under office and retail space. And for public schools 470 acres will be used. In addition, there is space for 80 000 residential units.
“Arizona will be recognized for being a place of innovation,” Schott added. There is no word yet on when construction will begin.
