Biden will release his memoir after the November midterm elections.
The 46th US President Joe Biden will release a memoir titled "Promise Me, America," in which, according to him, he will talk about everything from the state of the economy to his decision to refuse to run for a second term, writes Associated Press.
The book will be released on November 17, Little, Brown and Company announced. The timing of its publication—two weeks after the midterm elections, in which Democrats hope to regain control of Congress—could cause unrest within the party, as it brings Biden back into the spotlight.
The Democratic Party is divided over the 46th president's political legacy: many believe his unsuccessful reelection bid paved the way for Donald Trump's return to the White House. Party leaders are hoping to keep the campaign focused on Trump and his policies, and any promotional activity around the book before the vote could irritate them.

"'Promise Me, America' is a book about the challenges our country has faced. It's about the decisions I made and why I made them," Biden said in a video statement. "It's also about why I decided to run for reelection and why I ultimately decided to step aside."
Reports of the memoir began circulating more than a year ago, and Biden himself has repeatedly mentioned the book in public appearances, suggesting it could be released before the November election.

With rare exceptions, every modern president, beginning with Harry Truman in the 1950s, has published a memoir of their time in the White House. Like almost all of his predecessors, Biden didn't work on the book alone: according to the publisher, he was assisted by a "small editorial team." Little, Brown and Company is not disclosing the financial terms of the deal, but such contracts for presidents typically reach into the seven-figure range.
The book's title refers to Biden's 2017 memoir, "Promise Me, Dad," about the death of his son, Beau Biden.
During the campaign, Biden promised to "restore the soul" of the country. He took office amid the COVID-19 pandemic, shortly after the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, by Trump supporters attempting to disrupt the certification of the election results. His presidency has included both serious crises and significant achievements—from his handling of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East to the passage of sweeping infrastructure and economic support legislation. However, many readers will likely be interested in his health during his presidency, including his disastrous debate with Trump in June 2024, after which he withdrew from the race.
Jill Biden, the wife of the 46th president, wrote in her book that her husband appeared so weak and disoriented during those debates that she feared he was having a stroke. In her book, "View from the East Wing," published in June, she noted that the White House initially attributed his condition to a cold.
“The main lesson for us, I think, is that if something is not explained clearly enough, the questions will not go away,” she wrote.
Biden was the oldest president in US history, and his health remained a topic of debate for much of his term. He and his White House team were harshly criticized by both Democrats and Republicans for what critics believed was concealing the true state of his health. In 2025, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's acclaimed book, Original Sin, was published, subtitled "The Decline of President Biden and His Disastrous Decision to Run Again."
That same year, Biden announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
His previous books include Promises to Keep, a campaign book published for the 2008 campaign that saw Barack Obama become the Democratic nominee and Biden join his team as his vice-presidential running mate.
"Promise Me, America" comes at a time of sluggish nonfiction sales, when few political books are popular, though recent bestsellers include "Communion" by Vice President J.D. Vance and "Regime Change," a book about Trump's second term by The New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.

A representative from Little, Brown and Company announced that Biden is planning a book tour and a series of interviews. In his video message, he noted that many people have been asking him about his well-being.
"I'm spending a lot of time with my family, going through cancer treatment, and everything is going very well," Biden said. "I want to thank everyone who supported me, prayed for me, and wished me well. This means a lot to me and to Jill."
