Safe workouts: a gym with insulating cubes opens for visitors in California
After 3 months of quarantine through the coronavirus in Redondo Beach (California), the Inspire Gym opened. In order to keep visitors social distance, the owner of the gym installed insulating cubes. This is stated in the video "Voices of America".
“My wife and I just started wearing masks. We tried to exercise with a mask, but it was very difficult to breathe. So we came up with cubes, made a frame from PVC pipes and separated them with shower curtains,” says gym owner Pete Sapsin. “A lot of people come to us with these insulating cubes. They feel comfortable because they have this protection. Even though we know it’s not 100% protective, it can make them feel much more comfortable because there are a few walls between people.”
“When they go into the cube, there are dumbbells, exercise mats, benches, everything they need, including disinfectant spray, so they can clean up after themselves after working out,” Sapsin said.
“I think it's a great idea. Pete and his team did a good job with the isolation cubes. I felt safe,” says gym goer Tran Nguyen.
Here's what a gym owner says about the pandemic's impact on business: “It's devastated us. We didn't know if we could open again. We have lost more than 50% of our clients. The remaining 50% continued to train with us online, but the remaining visitors were simply not ready. This situation was uncomfortable for them. So it was hard for us."
