Homeless surprised by the act when he found $ 17 000

Early one morning, hungry homeless man Kevin Booth went to his local food bank in Sumner, Washington, looking for bread, but instead of a bread box, his attention was drawn to a brown paper bag by the front door. Booth thought there might be food in it and opened it. Surprisingly, the bag was filled with cash - just $17.

“I didn’t realize what it was at first,” Booth, 32, told the local News Tribune.

He peered inside and saw piles of money. Kevin did not know what the sum was, but he knew for sure that they did not belong to him, which means that they had to be given. The man waited another 20 minutes, until a charity foundation was opened.

“He said, 'This is for you, someone left it on your doorstep,'” Anita Miller, director of a food bank in Sumner, told The Washington Post.

At first, the volunteer thought it was food and wanted to weigh it, just like a standard set with food, but then I realized that something was wrong here. Inside, stacks of 20 and 100 dollars were neatly stacked. She called the police.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, took the money and opened an investigation. Due to the fact that the surveillance camera did not work properly, they could not detect footage of the person who left the bag with the money.

"It's weird to leave a lot of money outside the food bank," Sumner police officer Marcus McDonald told The Washington Post.

Investigators checked for money loss claims and also investigated any robberies in the area. After the end of 90 days, the police returned the money to the foundation at the ceremony, where they also called Bout and thanked him for his honesty.

“Not every citizen would be as honest as you in this situation,” Moriquet told him, according to the News Tribune.

For its part, the charity foundation decided that it would give Kevin various gift cards as a reward.

Miller, along with other volunteers, plan to help him spend the winter. Miller said that while Booth lives in a tent, he turned down her offer to rent him a room.

The food charity serves about 1000 people per month in Sumner, a city where about 10 people live 000 people. All those in need can come and take meat, bread and other food for free.

The funds found will go to the purchase of a freezer for the planned expansion of the food stock. The director of the fund and the rest of the staff are grateful for the honesty and integrity of Bout.
