'Immortal Regiment' received official status in the United States

The Immortal Regiment International Initiative, dedicated to commemorating the memory of the participants in World War II, is officially registered in the United States as a public organization.

The Immortal Regiment initiative founded in 2012 is a unique event dedicated to commemorating the memory of WWII veterans. In the 2015 year, the action acquired an international character, and already in the 2016 the festive marches dedicated to veterans took place in 42 countries. Every year, thousands of people in the United States take part in a procession with portraits of war heroes, demonstrating personal memory of those tragic but heroic events.

At the end of 2018, the rally coordinators together with public organizations and cultural activists in the USA decided to register the movement as a public organization called the Immortal Regiment of the USA. This gives the movement an official status and confirms that the organization works within the framework of American law.

As Timofei Yanovsky, chairman of the organization’s coordinators council, explained, this step, on the one hand, will help promote the initiative in the United States, and on the other hand, it will provide legal protection to the organizers, coordinators and ordinary participants of the actions.

“We, as heirs of the Victory in the Second World War, consider our right to honor the memory of our loved ones who gave their lives for a peaceful sky above us, including in this country, to be especially significant. While living in the United States, we pay special attention to ensuring that our action is carried out in full accordance with American law, since only this can ensure us the full realization of our law and the improvement of relations between Russia and the United States. It is important for us that our American friends, together with us, honor the memory of their veterans, since the United States was the closest ally of the Soviet Union in World War II. Our initiative is fundamentally outside of politics and commerce, and we are open for cooperation with all organizations and individuals for whom our common history and memory are significant, ”Yanovsky emphasized.

According to him, by the 75th anniversary of Victory in World War II (May 9, 2020), the organization plans to complete the registration of the right to use the name “Immortal Regiment.” In fact, this will allow the Immortal Regiment to receive the official status of Russian, international and American initiatives.
