Free beer, hiking and $ 20: the brewery has opened a dream job for an experienced traveler

A Virginia beer company wants to pay a lucky hiker $20 to hike the Appalachian Trail—a kind of socially distant “workplace,” writes Travel + Leasure.

Backbone Brewing Company brewery expects to hire "chief of hiking tourism" for a 14-state hike from Georgia to Maine in spring 2021. The applicant must enjoy hiking as this is what they will be doing most days (over 2000 miles - 3200 km) over a 5-8 month period. There's a bonus: there'll be plenty of free beer along the way.

“We are located just off the Appalachian Trail at mile marker 842 (1326 km) and have been welcoming hikers looking to rest and recharge since opening,” explained Hayes Humphreys, Chief Operating Officer of Devils Backbone Brewing Company. “These people really understand how to change your life: slow down and become aware of what is happening around you. They are the ones who inspired us to create this position.”

“This is a great opportunity for the beer-loving hiker who wants to shake up their lifestyle by spending next summer on the Appalachian Trail,” he added. “Given the state of affairs today, we could all use some time to relax outdoors.”

In addition to free beer, the brewery will provide tourists with free camping equipment and transportation, as well as a $ 20 scholarship. Fun parties in their honor will be organized along the way.

A traveler who must have experience hiking in the wild will relax under the stars and share his experience with other beer lovers through social networks.

The vacancy is open to people 21 years of age and older in the regions where Devils Backbone sells its beer: Washington, DC, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South. Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

To apply, candidates must post on the brewery's website a link to a video telling their story and the reasons why they want to take part in the contest, before July 31.
