Free life on a cruise ship is not as good as it seems: 4 minuses from personal experience

Christina Kesteloo has become popular on TikTok. She has over 680 followers because she talks about what life on a cruise ship is really like. Kesteloo is the wife of the ship's chief engineer, so she lives on the ship for free. She only has to pay for alcohol and soda, which she gets at half off. The publication told more about her life on the liner upworthy.

“My husband and I live on a cruise ship for six months, and often it’s not as glamorous as it seems,” she noted. “But at least I don’t cook, I don’t clean, I don’t make the bed, I don’t do laundry and I don’t pay for food.”

Kesteloo's life does not seem to be stressful at all, because she is, in fact, on a constant vacation. However, even though she lives on a cruise ship as a "wife on board", there are a few don'ts that she either can't or shouldn't do.

1. No gambling

Kesteloo cannot sit down at a slot machine and “play his heart out.” She thinks that “it would look a little strange if I, the wife of the chief engineer, won a big jackpot.”

2. It is impossible to leave the ship with guests

When the ship arrives at its destination, she cannot disembark with her guests. She must wait about an hour and leave the ship with the crew. She is also obliged to return to the ship on time.

“No, they won’t wait for us,” she said. The same goes for her husband: if he “is late for the ship, then someone else will take on his role.”

3. It’s uncomfortable to sit in a crowded pool.

Although Kesteloo has access to the pool, gym and all the ship's amenities, she is careful not to interfere with guests' time. By the same token, he won’t leave the pool if there are a lot of people there, because “that’s the right thing to do.”

4. Must have insurance for international travelers

She needs to have insurance in case of an accident on the ship. But as a Dutch citizen, she already has insurance and just has to pay a few extra dollars a month.
