Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who is supporting Hillary Clinton in the election, is not surprised by Donald Trump's victory in the presidential race and has declared his willingness to cooperate with the new head of the White House.

He expressed this opinion in his blog for New York Times.

He noted that 8 in November, the Americans showed their protest sentiments, their frustration and anger against a system that puts the interests of wealthy people above the interests of the majority.

Sanders said that he supported Clinton’s candidacy, but she lost because Trump’s election rhetoric coincided with the anger that Americans and Democratic Party members feel about the state system.

“I'm saddened but not surprised by the result. It comes as no shock to me that millions of people who voted for Trump did so because they were tired of the economic, political and media status quo,” Sanders said.

In his opinion, Americans are tired of the fact that most of the world's financial resources are concentrated in the hands of 1% of people, from low wages and a long working day, from unfair wages, when a manager receives dozens of times more than an ordinary employee.

He added that many Americans cannot afford normal childcare, college tuition, medical insurance or decent housing.

Sanders said that Trump is right in saying that Americans want change. But he is not sure that the newly elected president will be able to resist under the pressure of the rich who are accustomed to influence politics, and will be able to defend the interests of poor Americans and, for example, will lower the prices of medicines, despite the benefits of businessmen.

Sanders does not believe that after the victory of Trump America they are waiting for intimidation and harassment on racial or gender grounds, he noted that “America has gone too far in fighting discrimination, and is not going to take a step back.”

Sanders noted that if the newly elected president demonstrates a desire to really improve the lives of ordinary Americans, he is ready to cooperate with him and provide his ideas that he developed during the election campaign.

“Let's rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and create millions of good-paying jobs. Let's raise the minimum wage to a living wage, help students pay for college, provide paid medical leave and expand Social Security. Let's reform the economic system that allows billionaires like Mr. Trump to pay no federal taxes,” Sanders wrote.

He added that in the coming days he would propose a program for reforming the Democratic Party, which should once again become a party of the interests of the working class and retirees, and not represent the interests of the rich who are in the leadership of the party. He proposed “to bring into the party the energy and enthusiasm of the youth”.

Sanders added that during the end of his presidential campaign, he predicted a political revolution in the United States, and Trump's victory proved its necessity.
