Continuing his tough immigration policy, President Trump proposed an immigration structure that would eliminate the visa lottery, known as Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

Visas, which are now randomly distributed using the visa lottery, Trump proposes to redistribute among other programs.

The need to cancel the lottery green cards explained many of its shortcomings.

Immigration must be based on merit and skill, not luck and chance

The United States annually issues 50 000 visas to foreign nationals as part of Diversity Immigrant Visa ProgramAlso known as the Green Card Lottery.

Visas are usually awarded to applicants from countries that have had low immigration rates to the United States in the previous five years. The system selectively identifies applicants for the visa lottery, allowing them to apply for a visa, which in turn allows you to obtain a legal permanent residence in the United States.

Lottery winners who have obtained legal permanent residence can invite other family members to the United States as permanent residents. Lawful permanent residents who come to the United States through a system of visa lotteries can go through a naturalization process, which ultimately allows them to bring even more relatives to the United States.

Requirements for the winners Diversity Visa minimum: secondary education and two years of work experience in the last five years by profession. As a result of these low qualification standards, there is no guarantee that those who have moved to the United States through the green card lottery system can make a positive contribution to the United States or successfully adapt to a new place.

A recent Harvard-Harris poll showed that more than two-thirds of the respondents, 68%, oppose the lottery, which randomly chooses the 50 000 people for immigration to the United States.

The system is too vulnerable to fraudsters and abuse

A report from past years shows that the green card lottery system has long been vulnerable to fraudsters and abuses. A report published by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) in 2007 reported fraud on the claimants themselves.

In addition, the report stated that the verification of the identity of the applicant had potential consequences for the security of the country.

In 2003, the Office of the State Department Inspector General (OIG) developed a report stating that this program is subject to widespread violations:
— OIG has determined that despite restrictions on duplicate lottery applications, thousands of duplicate applicants are recorded each year.
“The report states that identity fraud was widespread, with applicants often using false documents.

The visa lottery program creates a potential threat to national security by inviting citizens of countries that are considered to be “state sponsors of terrorism”, and then gives them the opportunity to obtain US citizenship through naturalization.

From 2007 to 2016, the United States has almost granted 30 000 permanent residency visas for a visa lottery program for people from countries that are considered sponsors of terrorism.
