White House releases Joe Biden and Kamala Harris tax returns

According to new tax returns released April 18 by the White House, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden earned $579 in 514, slightly less than their earnings the previous year. CNN.

The White House also released tax returns showing that Vice President Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff last year earned $456, well below their income compared to 918 when they sold the residence.

Last year the President and First Lady have paid $169 in combined federal, Delaware, and Virginia taxes. Of these, they owed the federal government $820, resulting in an effective federal income tax rate of 137%.

Their combined income mainly consisted of the president's annual salary of $400 set by Congress, as well as pensions. The couple received just over $000 from two S corporations - CelticCapri Corp. and Giacoppa Corp. — which the White House had previously stated were created to receive royalties from their written and oral performances.

Income from these corporations has dropped significantly compared to last year, when it was almost $62.

The First Lady earned $82 teaching at Northern Virginia Community College.
In 2022, the Bidens donated $20 to 180 different charities, including $20 to the Beau Biden Foundation. The charity, named after the president's late son, aims to protect children from abuse.

Other organizations the couple have provided include the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, a group that offers support to grieving military families, and St. Joseph on Brandywine Catholic Church, which the Bidens attend in Wilmington, Delaware.

The 2022 returns are mostly consistent with taxes filed a year earlier, when the Bidens earned $610 and paid $702 in federal income tax at a rate of 150%.

Harris and Emhoff owed $93 in federal income tax, at an effective federal income tax rate of 570%.
Harris and Emhoff donated $23 to charities last year, including $000 each to Howard University and the University of Southern California, the vice president's alma mater.

The White House has reinstated the practice of publishing president and vice president tax returns as a sign of transparency after the Trump administration abandoned it.

“Once again demonstrating our commitment to being financially transparent to the American people. President Biden has released more tax returns than any other president in office," the White House said.

After years of secrecy, Donald Trump's six years of taxes, including taxes from his time in the White House, were later made public through the House Ways and Means Committee.

They showed that Trump paid very little federal income tax in the first and last year of his presidency.
