White House vows to 'confront destabilizing behavior' of Russia

First, McMaster said, Trump instructed the administration to confront "the destabilizing behavior of Russia in Europe, the Middle East and our own country, where she uses a sophisticated approach to propaganda and disinformation, trying to polarize communities within democratic societies and turn them against each other" .

“They use advanced tools, cyber-tools and social networks. We intend to resist this destabilizing behavior, ”he added.

McMaster did not agree with the assumption of former National Intelligence Director James Clapper that Russian President Vladimir Putin is manipulating Trump.

“This is simply not the case,” he said.

At the same time, the national security assistant declared that the administration was interested in cooperation with Russia where it was possible.

“What the president also asked us to do in relation to Russia is to contain the conflict,” he said. - This is evident in the principle of “peace by force”, which is contained in the national security strategy. But we also need to try to find areas of cooperation. This was discussed from the very beginning. Russia and the United States should cooperate in North Korea. It’s impossible for a nuclear-armed North Korea to be in Russia's interests, and the president clearly stated this to Putin in a telephone conversation. ”

In a separate interview with the Air Force, MacMaster accused the Russian authorities of "sophisticated subversive activities" that manifested itself in interfering with the US presidential election in 2016.

“I believe that Russia is conducting a very sophisticated subversive activity in order to undermine our trust in democratic institutions, in democratic processes, including elections,” he said.

McMaster's statement contradicts the words of Trump, who has repeatedly called allegations of Kremlin interference in the elections "deception" or "fabricated history."

“We need to see what Russia is really doing,” McMaster added in an interview. - Of course, we will have to resist the destabilizing behavior of Russia and the sophisticated campaigns of propaganda and disinformation.
