Belarusian wins Apple's competition for the best photo taken on an iPhone

Apple has announced the results of the iPhone Photo Contest. Among the 10 winning pictures was picture of a tennis courtmade by Nikita Yarosh, quality assurance specialist from Minsk. Writes about it Meduza.

Apple announced a photography competition in January 2019. At first, nothing was said about the material reward for the winners - the company simply promised to hang the 10 best photos in its stores. Apple began to criticize - and it added a clause on royalties to the rules (their amount was not disclosed).

The jury who selected the best works included Apple's senior vice president of marketing Phil Schiller and former US President Barack Obama's personal photographer Pete Sousa. Commenting on the photo of Nikita Yarosh, photographer Austin Mann (another member of the jury) noted that he liked its “availability”: “You don't have to go to Iceland to shoot beauty. She's right under your nose. "

Yarosh said that mobile photography is his hobby, which he has been doing for about five years. IN his Instagram only about a hundred pictures.

“For a long time there was a period of trial and error, trying to figure out what I like to shoot more. Attempts, accompanied by the deletion of old photos that do not correspond to new ideas and styles, ”explained the winner.

He noted that he studied a lot of photographs by other authors who shoot in a minimalist manner, and he himself tries to adhere to the same style: “Colored background with original small details that attract attention. Always neat and simple, but at the same time interesting compositions, nothing superfluous. "

Yarosh is one of two winners of Apple's iPhone 7 competition (others have newer models). He does not believe that the camera of the phone, released 2,5 years ago, severely limits his possibilities, in particular because most of the pictures are taken in good lighting.

“Limitations are felt in general from smartphone shooting. But this is typical of any model, - Nikita explains. "Perhaps, on more modern models, the detail of the photo would be better, but it is unlikely that it would have affected to a large extent."

According to the photographer, he edits most of the pictures right on the phone - erases spots, adjusts colors and light. To do this, he uses the Lightroom CC and Snapseed apps.

In the winning photo, Jarosh changed the color of the tennis court - and did it on a laptop.

“The same goes for removing multiple or complex subjects from the frame for a minimalistic look,” says the photographer. “Most of my pictures are simple, they are ready-made, but sometimes for the sake of some creative ideas you have to add elements or layers”.
