Biden ordered to declassify intelligence about the origin of COVID-19
US President Joe Biden signed into law the declassification of information about the origin of the coronavirus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic. Writes about it Voice of America.
Biden said he fully supports Congress' push to release as much information about the origins of COVID-19 as possible.
"In implementing this law, the administration will declassify and release as much information as possible in accordance with the constitutional authority to protect against disclosure of information that could harm national security," Biden said in a statement.

The bill passed through the Senate and House of Representatives without objection before being sent to the White House.
There has been a very heated bipartisan debate about the origins of the coronavirus pandemic since the first human cases were reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019. Biden signed the bill amid calls from both Democrats and Republicans to counter rising Chinese influence.
The debate resumed last month when the Wall Street Journal reported on a US Department of Energy report suggesting the pandemic was likely due to a leak from a Chinese lab. China itself denies such accusations.
Employees of the Department, based on secret intelligence reports, made such an assumption. The FBI believes that the pandemic is likely due to a leak from a Chinese biological laboratory. Four more intelligence agencies remain convinced that the pandemic began as a result of natural transmission of the virus from animals to humans, two more agencies have not yet decided on their opinion.

Many US officials agree that the origin of the pandemic may never be known for certain. China said claims of a lab leak that allegedly caused the pandemic were "not credible".
Biden noted that he has instructed intelligence agencies to investigate the origins of COVID-19 in 2021, and the work continues. The administration, according to the president, will continue to study all classified information, including potential links to the origins of the pandemic with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“We need to understand the origins of COVID-19 in order to better prevent pandemics in the future,” Biden said.
