American writer Harper Lee, who became famous for her novel “To Kill a Mockingbird,” has died at the age of 90.

Reports of the death of the writer confirmed the mayor's office of her native city of Monroeville, where she lived for the past few years. The cause of death of the writer is not specified.

Harper Lee was born in 1926. In the 1950s, she decided to become a writer and wrote several short stories, and in 1959 she completed her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which brought her worldwide fame.

Published in 1960, the novel became a bestseller and remains so to this day. It has been translated into several languages, and the film adaptation of the work, directed by Horton Foote, won an Oscar.

Despite the loud success of the novel, Lee never wrote a single finished work and began to avoid public speaking.

However, in 2015, she agreed to revise and publish the novel Go Set a Watchman, which she wrote before To Kill a Mockingbird, but which never saw the light of day.
