Armenian priest revealed the secret of the “Holy Fire” in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher

Priest Samuil Agoyan, representing the Armenian Patriarchate in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, told how it really happens “miracle of the Holy Fire".

According to him, there is nothing mystical about this process, writes “Mirror of the week".

Agoyan had the opportunity to be present three times in the temple’s edicule at the lighting of the fire. He admitted that during this process, the patriarchs simply light bundles of wax candles from an oil lamp, and there is nothing mystical about the “holy fire”.

“God works miracles, but not for the amusement of people,” the clergyman explained.

These words caused horror in the representative of the Coptic church who was standing nearby.

“Stop the camera, he’s lying!” the priest shouted.

Father Agoyan objected that the Copts, unlike the Armenians, were not present when the fire was turned on, and therefore the Coptic cleric cannot know about the backstage procedure.

The ceremony of distributing the “Holy Fire” on the eve of Orthodox Easter annually attracts thousands of pilgrims to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. According to a belief supported by the Orthodox churches, a miraculous, non-burning fire “descends from heaven” into the hands of the Greek patriarch, and he, together with the patriarch of the Armenian church, distributes it to the believers gathered around the temple.

The Holy Fire is delivered from Jerusalem by special planes to Moscow, Kiev, Athens and other Orthodox capitals of the world.
