Apple unveiled the $1999 iPhone Duo, the first foldable iPhone that can replace a tablet.
From a typical everyday perspective, the iPhone Duo's main advantage is the ability to have both a regular compact phone and a tablet in one device. The publication discusses the specs of Apple's new flagship. Wired.
When closed, the device behaves like a regular smartphone: it fits in your pocket, is comfortable to hold with one hand, and is easy to take out, answer calls, view notifications, and use instant messaging apps.
The device's 5,4-inch external display is quite large. However, once opened, the user is presented with a 7,6-inch screen—significantly larger than even the iPhone Pro Max.
On the subject: Apple unveiled the $600 MacBook Neo, the company's cheapest laptop yet.
This screen makes it more comfortable to watch videos, read long texts, work with documents, spreadsheets, or email, and use maps without zooming. And, of course, it's also more enjoyable to play games.
The difference in multitasking is especially noticeable. For the first time, iPhone now features a proper Split View—you can keep two apps side by side (for example, chat and browser, notes and calendar, mail and documents). The interface automatically adjusts to the opening angle: you can slightly tilt the phone to get a comfortable keyboard layout or position it like a "tent" for Standby mode (with a large clock, photos, and widgets).
There are also some small but pleasant everyday benefits. The external screen can be used as a viewfinder when shooting with the main cameras. There's a Kid Cue feature—a cartoon plays on the external display so your child can watch the camera.
The device can be unlocked with a finger (Touch ID) in any position or with an Apple Watch. Apple Pencil support will be coming soon, allowing you to quickly jot down notes or sign documents right on the big screen.
The device is released alongside the pro versions of Apple smartphones – the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Like most book-style foldable devices, this one uses a split battery system, with the battery split across both halves. This provides up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display—or 24 hours of mixed usage on a single charge. Additionally, the device features Apple's new proprietary C2 modem (with mmWave 5G support in the US) and the A20 Pro chip—the same one found in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Both displays have the same aspect ratio (approximately 1:1,4), so content scales smoothly when opening and closing without distortion. The inner screen is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple calls it the largest display ever on an iPhone. Both screens support 120Hz ProMotion, Always-On Technology, and peak brightness up to 3000 nits. The inner screen features a special nano-textured coating that significantly reduces glare and makes the crease almost invisible (both to the touch and visually).
When open, the ecnhjqcndf is just 5,2 mm thick—the thinnest iPhone ever. When closed, it's 11,3 mm thick and weighs 254 grams. The case is made of grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish, and the hinge cover is 3D-printed from recycled titanium. The hinge is made of over 100 components, features variable resistance, and a magnetic array that provides a satisfying "click" into place. It's IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.
Cameras: two 48-megapixel modules on the back (the main one with 2x optical zoom and an ultra-wide-angle one), a 12-megapixel module on the outer screen and an under-screen selfie camera on the inner screen.
