Anonymous Sponsor Pays Off Student Loan Debts For All College Graduates In Texas
An anonymous donor paid $300 to pay off student loans for an entire graduating class of 000 at a traditional African-American college in Texas, reports Dailymail.
Students graduating from an African-American college in Texas were celebrating their graduation ceremony when they were told that an anonymous donor had paid off their student debts.
More than 100 enthusiastic alumni of Wylie College in Marshall cheered and chanted when they were told that the total debt owed to the college was estimated to be $300.
“You are free from debt! You don't owe the college a dime. You are no longer in debt,” College President Herman Felton Jr. told a group of alumni on May 7.
The generous donation not only helped students get a head start in their careers, but also allowed the entire 2022 class to take the stage to receive their diplomas.
“If you don’t have a zero credit balance, you won’t go through this stage to get your degree, and you won’t get your degree until you have a zero balance,” said alumnus Dominique Payton.

Payton, who has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, says that while she had no outstanding debt thanks to the scholarships she received, she was stunned by the news.
“I thank God that my classmates can leave without this burden. It helps us get out into the world and we don't have this burdensome debt hanging over our heads,” Payton said. “It's one less thing they have to worry about.” I hope this helps them. They don't have to worry anymore and can direct their thoughts and attention to something else."
“We are constantly in touch with sponsors to help students so that they can start their post-college education with less debt,” Herman J. Felton, Jr., president and CEO of the college, said in a press release.
