Anonymous has been giving 100 dollar bills to Oregon residents for three years
In the city of Salem, Oregon, there is an anonymous philanthropist who hides hundred dollar bills in various unexpected places in the city.
This has been going on for three years, writes USA Today.
The locals dubbed him Benny because of the gifts he makes, because Benjamin Franklin is depicted on 100-dollar bills.
Many residents were lucky to find the bills, which an unknown benefactor signs on the right side of the banknote, in stores, in markets, fairs and festivals. Some lucky ones said that Benny’s bills dropped out of purchases right at the checkout. Money was found in packs of porridge, and in frozen dishes, and even in mousetraps.
For the first time, one hundred dollar bills began to hit Salem residents in 2013. By now, according to the calculations of journalists, the philanthropist has distributed around 50 thousands of dollars. He left bills in 26 stores, at eight different events, and also on the streets in several districts of the city.
Until now, Benny has managed to preserve anonymity, although it is not known for certain whether he is a loner or a group of philanthropists are operating in the city.
In the city, he has already become a legend, a symbol of generosity and goodwill.
Residents are surprised that Benny's gifts were really necessary in many cases: someone could pay overdue electricity bills, someone bought the right medicine for which there was not enough money, and someone even rented a house with this money for several days
Now not everyone who has found the treasured bill spends this money. Many people leave the bill as a souvenir, hang it on the fridge or donate it to charity.
