NSA monitors three German chancellors

Documents appeared on the Wikileaks website according to which the US National Security Agency for several decades followed high-ranking German officials, including three chancellors.

From the documents published by Wikileaks, it follows that NSA officers tapped the phones of the assistants of the current Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and her two predecessors, Gerhard Schroeder and Helmut Kohl.

German authorities said they were checking the information that appeared on the Internet.

Earlier in the press there was information about the wiretapping of Merkel’s NSA phone by the NSA officers, however, no surveillance of other chancellors has been reported so far.

The relations between the special services of the two countries have since become strained. At the same time, a case of wiretapping in Germany was recently closed due to lack of evidence.
