Democrat Congressman Bill Paskrell came to the annual speech of US President Donald Trump in front of US parliamentarians with the Ukrainian flag.
Thus, a congressman from New Jersey, who is also a member of Ukraine’s congressional support group, wanted to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, writes “Voice of America".
“The speech mentions Russia, and I proudly fly the Ukrainian flag today in solidarity with our ally and friend, while the people of Ukraine continue to resist Russian aggression,” Pascrell wrote on his Instagram page, attaching a photo of himself with a Ukrainian flag.
Commenting on Trump's speech in his Twitter microblog, Pascrell also sharply criticized the presidential administration’s decision to withdraw from the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and Small-Range Missiles (INF).
“On the other hand, hearing my fellow Republicans applaud the withdrawal from the INF agreement made my blood boil. Trump's stupid move will accelerate the nuclear arms race. The only one who still likes this decision is Putin,” the congressman wrote in Twitter.
Traditionally, the presidential speech in Congress is a solemn event and the reason for the legislators to testify their position on a particular issue.
Recall February 1 US President Donald Trump announced that From 2 February, the United States unilaterally suspend all obligations under an agreement on liquidation medium and shorter range missiles (PRSMD) and begin the procedure for exiting it.
In response, Russia did the same.
“We will proceed as follows. Our answer will be a mirror. The American partners have announced that they are suspending their participation in the contract, and we are suspending ", - said Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs Sergey Shoigu and Sergey Lavrov.
The agreement signed in 1987 between the USSR and the USA is one of the most important agreements that ensured a state of "strategic stability" in the world, which practically guaranteed that a nuclear war would not start. Now this state is under threat.
During his speech in the February 5 Congress Trump mentioned this decision, as one of the achievements of his administration.
