American financier estimated Putin's fortune at $ 200 billion
The head of the American investment fund Hermitage Capital, Bill Browder, who has worked with Russia for about 11 years, told CNN about the financial condition of President Putin in an interview with CNN.
“I believe that it (Putin’s financial condition - ed.) is about 200 billion US dollars,” said Browder, “After 14 years in power and (taking into account - ed.) the amounts that the country received and the amounts that were not spent on schools, roads, hospitals and so on, all this money is in possession, stored in accounts in Swiss banks, stocks, hedge funds run by Putin and his cronies.”
According to the financier, during his first presidential term, Putin fought oligarchs and corrupt officials. “He fought the same guys as me. The oligarchs stole power from him, and they stole money from us,” Browder explained. However, having arrested the richest oligarch in Russia, the Russian president radically changed his position on this issue, telling others: “If you do not want to be arrested, then you must share the money with me.”
“Putin was not above all this, Putin was closely involved in all this, and it’s not that he held the oligarchs in check - he was the biggest oligarch,” Browder concluded.
