American tourists killed in an accident in Mexico

A bus carrying cruise ship passengers on an excursion to Mayan ruins in southeastern Mexico overturned on a narrow road on Tuesday, December 19, officials said. The incident killed 11 travelers and their guide. More than a dozen others were injured.
According to Quintana Roo, Secretary of State for Tourism, published Wednesday, 8 of the dead were from the United States, as well as two Swiss, one Canadian and a Mexican guide. Passengers were guests on cruise ships of the Royal Caribbean Celebrity Equinox and Serenade of the Seas.
According to the statement, 13 people were injured, including 3 American, 4 Brazilian, 3 Canadian, 2 Swiss (who have already been delivered to the US) and the bus driver, who is in custody.
The US State Department reported that several American citizens were killed as a result of the crash, and several people were injured, but did not indicate the exact number or data of the victims.
A spokeswoman for the port of Fort Lauderdale said that Serenade of the Seas left Port Everglades last Friday with a weekly tour. Miami port spokesman Andria Muniz-Amador said that Celebrity Equinox set off on Saturday and due to arrive at 4 in the morning this Saturday, December 23, to the same port.
Local media reports, citing family members of the victims, report that 78-year-old Fenya Shamis, a resident Coconut creek, is among those killed in the crash. It is reported that her 11-year-old grandson may also have died, but officials did not confirm this information.
The record shows an inverted bus on a two-lane highway, as well as people who walk around or lie on the road.
The State Attorney’s Office of Quintana Roo Province reported that a child was among the dead.
