American Jews congratulated Evan Gershkovich, who is serving time in a Russian prison, on Rosh Hashanah
As part of a public campaign initiated Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), more than 2100 people from 21 countries sent Rosh Hashanah greetings to Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in Russia.
Former Prisoner of Zion Natan Sharansky also sent Evan a personal greeting for the Jewish New Year.
“Dear Evan, Shana Tova! “I am confident that this year will be the year of your liberation, thanks to our prayers, Jewish solidarity and the support of your friends and colleagues,” Sharansky wrote. — You probably know that Lefortovo became my “alma mater” - I spent a year and a half there during interrogations, awaiting trial. It is very important, while resisting pressure, to remain optimistic, trying to see a more complete picture of the world.”
Jewish Federations will send Evan, through his lawyers, a collective letter containing hopes, prayers and wishes sent from around the world. In addition, Evan's family will be given a booklet containing all the letters received.
