An American company has printed a rocket on a 3D printer and is preparing to launch it into space
The American company Relativity Space has printed a rocket on a 3D printer and is preparing to launch it into Earth orbit. The rocket was called Terran-1, as described in more detail by the publication MC.today.
The Terran-1 rocket consists of 85% parts made on a 3D printer. So far, this is the only printed object of this scale and size. The rocket is 33 meters long, and its GLHF (Good Luck, Have Fun) mission aims to deliver a payload into orbit.
If the tests are successful, Terran-1 will make its first flight in February from Cape Canaveral (Florida).

Interestingly, the developers ventured to print even rocket engines on the printer. All of them run on a rather atypical fuel for the space industry - a combination of natural gas and liquefied oxygen.
If the rocket reaches low Earth orbit without problems, Relativity Space hopes to make the next flight to Mars. Incidentally, Terran-1 engines are designed to be reusable. And directly on Mars, they can be easily converted to methane fuel.
Relativity Space co-founders Tim Ellis and Jordan Noone both worked for space companies Blue Origin and SpaceX, respectively. According to their calculations, the Terran-1 can deliver a payload weighing up to 1250 kilograms into low-Earth orbit.

Alongside this rocket, Relativity Space is working on a much more powerful and efficient Terran-R model. She will be able to transport goods weighing about 20 thousand kg. The Terran-R is also expected to be usable more than once, making it a major competitor to SpaceX's Falcon-9.
