American woman paid $78 for a flight home after vacation: all because of a small error in insurance

A woman is forced to pay $78 for a flight home from vacation due to an elementary mistake with insurance. Her family warns travelers to get the right insurance. Writes about it The Sun.

Anna Silbo was vacationing in Belfast, Ireland, when she broke her hip in an accident.

She had to be flown home to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on a US air ambulance, where she underwent hip replacement surgery.

Not only did she not have travel insurance, but US health insurance did not cover medical repatriation.

Her daughter Toni said they are now being billed over $78 for all fees.

They had to use all their credit cards to cover the expenses, she said.

Cliff Carothers, founder of Air Ambulance, explained that the service can pick up patients from anywhere in the world, but that comes at a cost.

He said, "If you're coming from Europe, it will cost anywhere from $80 to over $000. Africa will cost $100. Asia can cost up to $000."

Allianz Travel Insurance spokesman Daniel Durazo warned: "Whenever you leave the country, most domestic health insurance and Medicare policies will not pay for foreign medical care, so always take out health insurance to cover these medical bills."
