Americans massively leave California

According to a recently published US census, California’s 38 left thousands of people more than in 2018, writes Quartz.

For the second year in a row, California has recorded negative migration, and this trend is increasing. Each year, starting with 2014, the net migration is reduced. In 2018, the population of California increased by 160 thousands of people, but this was due to the fact that the state was born 480 thousands of babies. Despite accelerated internal emigration, the state’s birth rate remains stable.

The current trend shows that in the next decade the population of California will begin to decline.

Each year, since 2011, the net internal migration has been negative, that is, more people leave California than come from other states. But from 2011 to 2016, the situation has changed and the number of migrants arriving has grown.

However, in 2018, 156 of thousands of locals left the state, and only 118 of thousands arrived in California.

As Sacramento Bee data shows, most people migrate to nearby states such as Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Texas. This is due to the fact that the cost of housing in California is growing. According to real estate company Zillow, the cost of an average California home has grown from about 300 000 dollars in 2012 to about 550 000 dollars in 2019.
