American faces jail term in Dubai over marijuana smoked in the United States
An American man who allegedly smoked or swallowed marijuana in Las Vegas faces three years in prison in the United Arab Emirates, writes New York Post.

A prison term threatens the American after a few days after his arrival in the UAE, traces of marijuana were found in his urine, according to the website "Detained in Dubai", which published information from his lawyer.
Peter Clarke, 51, flew from Las Vegas to Dubai on February 24, where he was hospitalized after an attack of pancreatitis. There, doctors found traces of hashish in his urine - which is considered marijuana possession in the UAE - and reported Clark to authorities.
He was arrested on March 3 and spent three days in a "flea-packed cell" before being released back to his hotel, where he awaits his fate.

He recorded a video of the brutal ordeal after being released from prison.
“I’ve lost weight, I haven’t had a shower, I haven’t eaten or drunk since I arrived,” Clark said.
“The arbitrary application of laws in the UAE and the lack of predictable legal outcomes means Peter faces years in prison for legally smoking marijuana. Even if he is found not guilty, he could be dragged through a slow and expensive trial,” said Clark's lawyer Radha Stirling.

Clarke claims that he did not bring drugs to Dubai, did not use or buy drugs while there.
He is not the first Westerner to be harmed on similar charges.
British Army veteran Andy Neil spent over a year in prison before being released in 2019. Another Briton, Connor Clements, was arrested in Dubai after using medical marijuana in the UK.
