The US State Department decided to close five of the six honorary consulates of Russia operating in the country.

In Moscow, they are outraged by the decision of Washington to withdraw accreditations from the five honorary consuls of Russia to the United States - in California, Utah, Minnesota, Florida and Puerto Rico. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova.

According to the press secretary of the US embassy in Moscow, these actions will not affect the activities of Russian diplomatic missions.

“These actions are being taken in response to ongoing Russian interference in our diplomatic and consular activities in Russia, including widespread pressure on our employees, as well as the forced closure of the American center in Moscow. These actions will not affect the activities of Russian diplomatic missions, including the embassy, ​​the consul general or the Russian cultural center in Washington,” William Stevens, a spokesman for the American embassy in Moscow, quotes RIA News.
