American Airlines to suspend flights to 15 US cities due to lack of funds
American Airlines Group Inc said it plans to suspend flights to 15 U.S. airports in October as travel demand remains low due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Writes about it AMNY.
Congress had been deciding for weeks whether to provide US airlines with an additional $ 25 billion in payroll assistance that would keep tens of thousands of airline employees at work for another six months and extend minimum service requirements.
The airline said it would cancel just over 700 flights to and from these 15 airports in October, but cautioned it could make further cuts or reconsider if Congress provides additional assistance.
“This is the first step as American continues to assess activities and plans for additional schedule changes in the coming weeks,” the airline said.
The debate over airline aid has stalled as Congress struggled to reach agreement on a broader coronavirus relief package.
